EMT's and FireFighers - Lets TALK.

Hey folks

This week my creative non-fiction class is working on interviews and literary journalism. I honestly haven't picked a topic yet, but I would love to talk with anyone I can about life in the field.

EMT's, Paramedics, Firemen, Cops, Dispatchers, Nurses, Aides, even Doc's- send me a e-mail at bmxchic7@yahoo.com if you are interested in participating. No need for full names unless you prefer it. If not please provide an alias or a user name.

Information I need to begin an interview process is:
Name (or alias)
Age
Years in the field/ Training
Country
What it is that you do

After that I will send over my questions for you. No need to be overly formal- more than anything I am just gathering information on what I love! If you have any other information you wish to share or questions feel free to add them in.

Hope to hear from you all soon!

Officer Bubba and Creative Non-Fiction

"Stop, stop, stop!" The teacher said placing a hand in the air and looking at me coldly. I stopped reading aloud and looked up from my paper, confused as to why I was asked to stop.

"What is it?" I asked, setting my paper down.

"Your writing is way too morbid." She said. I stopped and tilted my head, trying to figure out what she was talking about, I had written about a bike crash, no blood, just a shoulder dislocation, and how sad it was. The essay hadn't even gotten to the dislocation yet, so far it was all technical BMX writing.

"How so?" I asked, trying to figure out what she meant.

"Next essay please." She called out.

I think I'll be in trouble, my 'This I Believe' Essay was on 'How bilateral 14g IV's in the antecubital will solve ANY fake emergency from the homeless shelter.' That one, is admittedly more gory, as well as harsh!

In other news, we had the Officer start school this week! He was VERY excited to get his uniforms, some of his equipment as well as his ungodly heavy textbooks. So far he is loving it, but I'll ask that one again in a few weeks!

Test Results

For the last week I have been hunting down the mailman. You would think in today's day and age he would bring these long awaited letters and packages sooner in fear of them being taken away from him and placed in the hands of the ever-growing Internet. Instead, I wait, hoping that each day is the day that it comes.

I am waiting for test results for my fiance, which will determine who goes to school first. Paramedic school is 5 days a week, 8-9 hours a day, including ride-along hours, which will take place at any day, any time. He has encouraged me to completely focus on school, so I would have to quit my job. With his certification it is 5-6 days a week, 4-5 hours a day, and is at convenient times, but still, we want him to focus on his certification. Either way I am worried about the results, the fianances, and how it will all work out.

I love my job, and I would hate to quit my job, even if it is for school, but thats the best decision that we can come up with, for both of us. There is no excuse for failure when school is all your doing. But with my evaluation recently coming back with excellent results and the Nurses trusting me to assist them with anything and everything, I would hate to loose what I have. But I would also hate to be where I am at forever.

Because of this I have been getting lost in my thoughts, finding myself thinking about the possibilities that lay ahead. When I go, will I be the oldest in my class? Will I be the youngest in my class? What happens when I graduate? Will I be able to focus all the time? Will it overwhelm me?

I hate swimming in a sea of doubt, so I curse the mailman and get ready for work, ignoring the fact that its his fault we have continued to be this worried about these results. I just close my eyes and try to let things be. However, trying and doing, are two very different things.
